Middle TN and the Tennessee Association of PHCC provides scholarship opportunities to support the next generation of trades professionals.
TAPHCC’s Knoxville chapter runs a four-year, in-person apprenticeship program through the KAPHCC Apprentice School. It provides hands-on training in plumbing and sheet metal trades, preparing students for skilled careers in the PHC industry.
For those outside the Knoxville area, TAPHCC offers an online apprenticeship program with the same curriculum as the Knoxville school. Powered and accredited by NCCER Connect and registered with the U.S. Department of Labor, it blends textbook learning with employer-supervised on-the-job training and proctored competency exams. Apprentices have up to 12 months to complete the program and can earn NCCER credentials and potentially U.S. Department of Labor Certified Apprentice status.
Designed for high school students, this summer work-based learning program allows participants to “ride along” with industry professionals for 4 to 8 weeks, experiencing careers in plumbing, HVAC, construction, and more—while being paid. It includes a kickoff event for students and guardians, application deadlines (typically early May), and gives participants a real-world glimpse into the trades.
